Man Floats With 19 Year Old Elderly Dog Every Day To Ease His Pain

You may remember seeing the photo several years ago. There’s a man with long, graying hair floating with his Shepherd mix sleeping in his arms and with his head on the man’s chest.

Here’s the story behind that photo.

John Unger adopted Schoep as a puppy. 19 years later, the elderly dog was suffering from arthritis and hip dysplasia. Unger realized that taking the pressure off of Schoep’s joints by floating with him was the best way he knew to provide his beloved fur child with pain relief.

A friend of Unger’s took a photo of the two of them, and it quickly made its way around the world.

Once that photo became viral, their story made the news. Donations started pouring in from around the world, which allowed Unger to pursue other methods of pain management that gave him another year with his beloved Schoep.

Even though Schoep is gone now, the love behind that photo can be felt around the world.

Faithful Dog Who Was Rejected Walks 125 Miles With Tears in Her Eyes to Get Back to Her Owner

A rejected Bullmastiff dog named Maru reportedly walked 125 miles through the Russian countryside to get to the ungrateful owner who abandoned her. At the end of her long journey, through a wilderness with wolves and bears along the way, she was found near an industrial estate near the owner’s home.

 

 

According to The Siberian Times, kennel owner Alla Morozova sold Maru to a couple in Krasnoyarsk when she was five months old. Six months later, the woman owner called Morozova up to complain she was “allergic” to the dog and asked the kennel to take Maru back.

 

 

“I never give up my puppies and when a dog is bought, it is stipulated that the owners should inform me if they do not need a dog anymore,” Morozova told the Siberian Times.

The couple agreed to send Maru back to the kennel in Novosibirsk by train, with an attendant keeping eye on her. But 200 kilometers into the trip, the train stopped at Achninsk.

“The dog had a panic attack, she was frightened,” Morozova said. “She had been brought by her owners, then they disappeared somewhere. The noise of the train scared her.”

According to the kennel owner, the dog jumped out of a compartment door, and kicked a conductor out of the way. When the door opened at the train station, Maru “jumped out like a bullet.”

When Morozova called the dog’s owners, she was shocked to find out they did not care.

“That angered me. The owners were not upset at all, like, well, the dog is lost and that’s all right. That was their answer,” she told local reporters. “They gave the dog away and the load fell off their shoulders.”

Amazingly, the dog was found more than two days later in an industrial part of Krasnoyarsk, where her owners live. It is thought she followed the train tracks all the way there.

“She had walked and run for two and a half days. Luckily neither bears ate her, nor wolves chewed her up,” Morozova said. “Volunteers found her in an industrial zone. The dog was very tired. She was lame, her paws were broken. The pads were damaged. Her muzzle was broken. Maru fell from the railway embankment.”

The volunteers who found Maru said she was in tears.

“I’m sure that she was looking for her house. Dogs are very attached to people,” Morozova explained. “She did not run to Novosibirsk, she wanted to go back where she lived. It is surprising that she went the right way. Geographically, she had no reference points at all. In the city she used to walk only in the yard, she never went anywhere else. And to make her away through the wild taiga, it is an amazing case.”

Morozova said one of her friends drove Maru back to the kennel and the dog is now recovering from her injuries. She was reunited with her parents.

Maasai Mara’s oldest lion takes pride in breathtaking photos

All wildlife beings are fascinating, yet it is nearly impossible to find a wild creature as majestic as a lion. After all, he’s been called the king of the jungle for a good reason! Always imposing, lions are practically the definition of wildlife, and that’s why these majestic creatures have always been an inspiration for photographers.

Recently, a wildlife photographer have captured on camera the oldest lion, and the result is nothing short of dramatic. Leighton Lum, a 33-year-old photographer from Hawaii has travelled to Kenya’s most famous game reserve, for a unique encounter with him.

A resident of the Maasai Mara since forever, Morani recently gained gained the title of the oldest lion, after the passing of his brother – the famous Scarface. Though he’s now 14-year-old, the old Morani still enjoys life and looks stronger than ever. Nevertheless, the scars from his face shows the tough life he lived, so far!

“Just by looking at his face, you can tell this guy has been through a lot,” Leighton said. “He went from a young stud leader of a pride, a king, to a retired old man who still fights for survival in the Mara.”

Marani is the last remaining ‘king’ of the four brothers that used to dominate these lands for the last decade. That’s why his story is even more impressive, and inspiring.

“Morani was a part of a coalition of four males and he’s the only one remaining out of the four,” the photographer said. “He is a lone male who has been pushed out of the pride by younger, stronger males which is a natural process in lions as the strongest males will control the pride.”

Just like almost all male lions, Morani spends most of his time sleeping and resting. “They [the lions] are lazy by nature and can sleep for 20 hours a day,”Leighton explained.

“We spotted him in the morning, then went back at the very end of the day only to find him no more than 15ft from where we left him. Even when he does get up and sit down, it is a rather slow process.”

Gorilla acts as babysitter whenever a mom needs help

We all know moms actually have super-powers, but even them need a rest sometimes and that goes for the animal kingdom as well. Thankfully for these mountain gorillas in the Virunga Mountains, Rwanda, a teenage named Ubukombe, is more than happy to babysit their offsprings.

“Ubukombe never misses a chance to volunteer to babysit for the babies in the group,” Donna Gorman with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, told The Dodo. “And her babysitting gives the mothers a break from maternal duties.”

In a recent footage, Ubukombe was caught on camera doing she loves the most – caring for the group’s newborns. In the heartwarming video, Ubukombe is carefully babysitting a little baby as his exhausted mom enjoys a well deserved break. The mother – Gutangara is part of the Pablo’s Group, one of the largest gorillas group the Dian Fossey is been monitoring.

“Babysitting is observed in gorillas, but in some groups more frequently than in others, and by some gorillas more than others,” Gorman said. “During resting time, many grown-ups sleep while the young gorillas play or are being groomed by other grownups.”

According to Gorman Ubukombe is not only helping the exhausted moms by giving them an extra hand, but she actually saves the species with her efforts. Apparently, the longer the time a baby gorilla spends apart of his mom, the faster it reaches the independence.

“The sooner the infant becomes independent, the sooner the mother can give birth again,” Gorman said. “It typically takes three and a half to four years for a gorilla mother to wean her infant, and during that time, they do not get pregnant.”

Afterward, transfer them to a 9 x 13-inch metal baking dish and make sure to place them in a single layer. Bake for 15 minutes, flip them, and bake for additional 15 minutes.

Runaway dog dodged rescuers for 2 months, 6-year-old girl saves the day

Meghan Topping, 6, is a hero despite her young age.

She managed to rescue a dog that had gone missing for two months and escaped the hands of professional rescuers. The adults tried for two months to save the runaway, scared dog named Daisy, but they had no success. Finally, they asked Meghan to give it a shot.

Meghan lured Daisy in on her first try.

How did she do it? When Meghan first approached Daisy, she began to run away. Then she sat down in the grass across from him (as shown in the picture above). “I army crawled on my tummy,” said Meghan. Daisy then ran over to Meghan.

When news reporters from KSBW Action News 8 asked Meghan how she knew what to do, she replied, “It’s just basic. We play with them. Trust. Love.”

But wait — this isn’t just a rescue story. There’s an even sweeter ending. Meghan’s best friend, Ava (pictured to the left), ends up adopting Daisy, so Daisy finally has a forever home.
