Sunlit Rooms Have Half as Much Bacteria as Dark Rooms, and No Bacteria That Cause Respiratory Diseases

Sunshine is a crucial ingredient for your overall health. In fact, a study published in Microbiome found that rooms full of light have 50% fewer bacteria then dark rooms and almost no respiratory disease causing bacteria. Besides, sunlight protects against inflammation, supports muscles, develops brain function, reduces high blood pressure, and even protect against cancer.

Additionally, a group of researchers at the University of Oregon set up a few dollhouse-sized rooms. Some of the rooms had a conventional UV blocking glass, some glass that let UV rays inside, and some held dark.

The rooms were injected with bacteria-packed dust of existing homes in Portland. The specific rooms were placed outdoors and their interiors were maintained at standard room temperature.

Here are the amazing results of sunlit rooms that have half as less bacteria then dark rooms:

After 3 months, researchers have found that 12 percent of the bacteria in dark rooms remained active and ready to reproduce. On the other hand, rooms exposed to sunlight through UV blocking glass had only 6.8 percent viable dust bacteria remaining, and rooms that allowed UV light in produced only 6.1 percent of viable bacteria.

Dust in dark rooms contained bacteria that cause respiratory diseases. However, this scenario wasn’t the case with light rooms. In fact, the bacteria in rooms that allowed UV light was actually the bacteria commonly found in outdoor air.

Therefore, you should definitely take this certain studies into consideration the next time you decide to close your curtains in your room. Also, make sure there is enough light in your home, and please, attempt to convince everyone that sunlit is a good way to promote your health and wellbeing.

We live in a world packed with dangerous bacteria and sanitizing isn’t always the best approach. In fact, it would be better to enrich an indoor light with microbes that are not harmful, while fight by yourself with these unfriendly bacteria. Enjoy in a life with no respiratory-disease-causing bacteria.

Every now and again he will get up and acts like a goofball, showing a fun and playful side to his personality. I was catching snowflakes on my tongue with him this day. And sometimes he likes to bring over friends, which I don’t mind at all. As long as they tidy up after themselves”.

Duck Visits Same 7th-Storey Balcony To Hatch Ducklings Two Years In A Row

A nesting mother duck has returned to the same nesting spot as the previous year, much to the delight of the quarantined owner of the flat

Image

During the first covid lockdown in London, Johanna Kolerski-Bezerra noticed a mother duck who had set up camp on her seventh-floor balcony.

The East-London block of flats is known for its urban feel and is certainly not the place you would expect a duck to raise its ducklings.

Johanna named the mother duck Carmen, and she welcomed the distraction in such unprecedented times.

One year on, after the lockdown was enforced again in 2021, the mother returned to the same spot to reclaim it.

This time, Carmen brought a male duck, who Johanna presumed to be the ‘baby-daddy.’ “The first time we saw an egg it was a real surprise,” she explains.

“How can a duck lay an egg on a seventh-floor balcony in a very urbanized area?! The second time around was a mixed feeling. We were happy to have her back but dreading the intense cleaning that comes after the ducklings.”

Johanna documented the whole process on Twitter. This showed the mother preparing her nesting materials, plucking leaves and her own feathers to keep the eggs warm.

Six weeks later, the eggs began to hatch, “The new thing we learnt this year was to call for help,” says Johanna. “Getting a duck and ducklings off a balcony is hard!”

“Two volunteers from the Swan Sanctuary—Gill & Andy—came, and without them we couldn’t have done it. All of us took the duck family to the nearest pond, Waterglade, in the East Village.”

So it is a happy ending for Carmen and her new family, now we wait to see if she will return next year!

Rescued Baby Beaver Keeps Building Dams With Random Objects

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a beaver around the house?

It actually looks like fun, until the beaver’s nature-given instincts kick in and it starts to build a dam.

Baby Beaver Gets Rescued, Ends Up Building ‘Dams’ In Rescuer’s Home Using Random Household Items

If it wants to build a dam, it will find a way. It will use items around the house like pillows, tissues, buckets, and whatever else is in its path!

Meet Beave, the local neighborhood rescue beaver who has been living with Nancy since May 2020 when he was only 3 weeks old.

Despite there being many animals who have come through these doors for rehabilitation and have been released back into the wild, beavers are different.

In the wild, they would stay with their family for about 2 years, this is when they learn everything they need to know to be independent.

This means Beave needs to undertake his own rehabilitation program which he will complete over the course of 2 years.

Other than learning how to be an adult, Beave also does what beavers do best, build dams!

“Beave is just starting to dam with household objects, but has not yet started outside or in water,” says Nancy. “He dams pretty much every evening. When I clean it up, he just rebuilds!”

He builds dams using everything from metal racks to plungers and pillows, essentially anything he can get his paws on.

Toilet mats, brushes, boxes, blocks, plungers, cloth, and more are used to build one of his doorway dams.

“The most challenging part about rehabbing a beaver is trying to teach him to learn all the things his parents would teach him. He does chew everything in the house, but with each rehab, there are unique challenges.”

Beave now has his very own TikTok channel dedicated to his life, currently, he has over 1.4m followers with over 33m likes.

It seems lots of people are interested in Beave and his life, especially his dam-building videos which often get tens of thousands of likes.
