Have you ever wondered what it’s like to have a beaver around the house?

It actually looks like fun, until the beaver’s nature-given instincts kick in and it starts to build a dam.

If it wants to build a dam, it will find a way. It will use items around the house like pillows, tissues, buckets, and whatever else is in its path!

 

Meet Beave, the local neighborhood rescue beaver who has been living with Nancy since May 2020 when he was only 3 weeks old.

Despite there being many animals who have come through these doors for rehabilitation and have been released back into the wild, beavers are different.

In the wild, they would stay with their family for about 2 years, this is when they learn everything they need to know to be independent.

This means Beave needs to undertake his own rehabilitation program which he will complete over the course of 2 years.

 

One thing was that he needed to be taught how to eat solid food, this was done by mimicking the specialist who was training him.

 

Other than learning how to be an adult, Beave also does what beavers do best, build dams!

“Beave is just starting to dam with household objects, but has not yet started outside or in water,” says Nancy. “He dams pretty much every evening. When I clean it up, he just rebuilds!”

He builds dams using everything from metal racks to plungers and pillows, essentially anything he can get his paws on.

Toilet mats, brushes, boxes, blocks, plungers, cloth, and more are used to build one of his doorway dams.

“The most challenging part about rehabbing a beaver is trying to teach him to learn all the things his parents would teach him. He does chew everything in the house, but with each rehab, there are unique challenges.”

Beave now has his very own TikTok channel dedicated to his life, currently, he has over 1.4m followers with over 33m likes.

It seems lots of people are interested in Beave and his life, especially his dam-building videos which often get tens of thousands of likes.
