MIAMI OFFICER CONVICTED OF BATTERY FOR VIOLENT ARREST OF BLACK WOMAN

On Thursday, a Miami-Dade officer was convicted of violently arresting a Black woman and lying about it on the police report.

It took a jury a little over an hour to convict Alejandro Giraldo of felony battery and official misconduct in the arrest of a Black woman who had called on the police for help, NBC Miami reports.

The charges stem from a March 2019 incident when Giraldo was seen on a cellphone video tackling Dyma Loving, a woman who called police to report that a neighbor had pointed a shotgun at her.

Giraldo claims he acted lawfully in subduing an unruly woman who was interfering with an investigation. The video showed him pushing Loving into a fence before taking her down to the ground to handcuff her.

Loving was initially charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence. However, all charges were later dropped.

“Police officers can put their hands on people to effectuate a lawful arrest. If the arrest is unlawful, they have no more rights than the rest of us. And he sure as heck can’t tackle her to the ground,” prosecutor Tim VanderGiesen said.

Giraldo argues that Loving was being unruly, which prompted his aggressive response.

“What you see there isn’t a crime. What you see there is a police officer working the streets, dealing with a situation and maybe his bedside manner was off,” Giraldo’s attorney, Andre Rouviere said.

“When he arrested Dyma Loving, it was after warning after warning that she was being disruptive.”

Giraldo faces up to five years in prison, CBS Miami reports. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle released a statement applauding the conviction.

“We will continue doing what we can to hold officers who violate the law accountable, because when a law enforcement officer commits a crime, it truly eats at the trust they need to keep our residents & communities safe,” Rundle said.

UPDATE: K’AUN GREEN, GUNNED BY SAN JOSE POLICE AFTER SAVING LIVES, FILES LAWSUIT

K’aun Green, the 20-year old who was gunned down by California police after disarming an attacker, is suing the city and the department for monetary and punitive damages.

BLACK ENTERPRISE previously reported that the college student and football star was shot several times after police mistakenly identified him as an attacker. Attorneys for Green said he’s a hero who acted immediately to save his life and everyone else involved in a fight at La Victoria Taqueria in San Jose on March 27.

The police department revealed that it thought Green was connected to a homicide that took place less than a mile way from the taqueria. But video footage confirmed that Green was indeed tussling with the attacker to disarm him.

Green’s injuries have resulted in multiple surgeries that could ruin his chance at an NFL career.

“Mr. Green is facing a long and uncertain road to recover the life he once lived, the sport he once enjoyed, and [the] dream he was moving ever closer to making his reality,” his attorneys said in the complaint. “The officer’s rash decision to shoot Mr. Green, who had done nothing wrong, has potentially jeopardized the young man’s promising future.”

According to the federal lawsuit, a fight broke out at the restaurant when a man “showing signs of being highly intoxicated” delivered a blow to Green’s face, ABC 7 reported. One of the man’s friends took out a gun on Green and his friends, but Green jumped to action by wrestling the gun away.

A third man got involved and assisted the other two men with attempting to retrieve the gun from Green, the complaint said. As Green was heading to the front door of the restaurant, one of the men tugged at his clothes, but Green managed to slip out of his grasp and back out the door.

Green was met with bullets as he held the gun pointing up in the air with his right arm.

The lawsuit cites that an officer shot Green four times without warning, nor did he get a chance to acknowledge the orders. After being taken to the hospital, the lawsuit also alleges that Green remained handcuffed and was restricted from seeing his family.

“They treated me like a criminal even though I saved my friends’ life,” he told NBC News.

He added: “It’s still surreal to me, it just hurts to know I can’t play football this year. I’m going to try my hardest to make a comeback.”

Another man involved in the brawl was arrested and charged for carrying a firearm as a felon.

Green’s legal team said the incident has “physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially” harmed the young football player. They are seeking compensation for Green’s wages and other income loss and medical expenses.

8 Signs You Have A Gluten Intolerance

Gluten is a protein usually found in wheat, barley, and rye. Nowadays intolerance to gluten is quite a common issue. Actually, many health professionals in the medical world fight whether it is healthy or not.

Wheat products, such as bread, pasta, crackers, and cereals, commonly include gluten. Furthermore, here is a list of grains that secretly contain gluten, and grains that are safe to eat because they don’t contain any.

These are the most common grains containing gluten:

  • Wheat
  • Graham flour
  • Rye
  • Contaminated oats
  • Bulgur
  • Barley
  • Couscous
  • Kamut
  • Wheat Germ
  • Spelt
  • Semolina

Most common gluten-free grains:

  • Quinoa
  • Wild rice
  • Buckwheat
  • Millet
  • Uncontaminated, pure oats
  • Amaranth

Secret gluten ingredients:

  • Grain extract
  • Modified Food Starch
  • Dextrin
  • Caramel Color
  • Maltodextrin
  • Natural flavoring

It’s important to learn that all processed and packaged foods can contain gluten, even if the ingredients don’t include wheat, rye or barley. Recently, gluten intolerance has been linked to Celiac disease, a classified autoimmune disorder that can cause damage to the small intestine.

Here are the 8 most common symptoms of gluten intolerance:

  • Tiredness and fatigue

Researchers have found that gluten allergies often lead to exhaustion and fatigue. In fact, the immune system creates a reaction that causes inflammation on the nerves, which drains the body’s energy.

  • Unexpected weight gain

Weight gain is extremely typical in celiac disease. That’s because gluten damages the intestinal lining, therefore it absorbs fewer nutrients than expected.

  • Weak immune system

There are IgA antibodies, and they might have a counter-attack on your immune system due to the allergy itself. These antibodies are mostly found in the saliva and gastrointestinal tract and make a person prone to the flu and colds.

  • Brain fogginess and loss of focus

One of the most surprising symptoms of gluten intolerance. According to an article published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, it was found that people suffer gluten allergies as a result of antibodies called immunoglobulin. It is believed that this reaction contributes to diminished cognitive performance.

  • Muscle and joint pain

The gluten intolerance can sometimes cause inflammatory effects, such as widespread pain, discomfort, and aches in the joints and muscles.

  • Headaches & Migraines

We all know that migraines can be especially painful headaches sometimes. To point out, studies have shown that 56 percent of gluten intolerant people had chronic headaches or migraines.

  • Dental problems

A recent study has found a relation between gluten sensitivity and “aphthous stomatitis” a condition known to cause mouth ulcers and canker sores.

  • Skin conditions

Gluten Intolerance often causes eczema, psoriasis, and acne as well as redness, rashes, itching, and blistering.

‘How dare you adopt a white baby?!’ We only had the desire to become parents.’: Couple battling male factor infertility build transracial family through adoption, embryo donations

“In 2018, after trying for over a year to conceive, we decided to seek treatment with a fertility specialist. After several tests, a semen analysis revealed my husband has Azoospermia, which ultimately means he is sterile and will not be able to biologically father children. In our case, our infertility is male factor, which is something a lot of people don’t know exists.

For most people, this would put their family planning on hold. Not for us. After taking some time to grieve the loss of our dreams of our future family, we started to look at our options. We began with looking at sperm banks and sperm donation options. There were so few options for African American donors, and even fewer that had the option for any children conceived to have contact once they reach the age of eighteen.

Eventually, we selected a donor to an insemination. Every time we tried something came up. Shipping issues, scheduling discrepancies – every single time we were not given the opportunity to inseminate. Just as we decided that maybe using donor sperm wasn’t the best option for us, we got the text.

My best friend called and asked, ‘If it came down to it, would you ever foster/adopt a baby?’

Confused, I responded, ‘Of course! But the cost associated is just as much if not more than IVF.’

‘Well, a friend of mine and her boyfriend are considering adoption for their son. I told them I thought you guys would be a great fit!’

We were shocked! They wanted us to be his parents! One day, we were finding out we’d never have children. A week later, we were being told we already had one!

The first time we met our son, we were greeted by a nurse in the NICU. She stopped us and said, ‘Please wash your hands.’ Our son, Ezra, was born 7 weeks early. He needed time to learn to feed and grow. For three weeks, we would go to see him at the hospital before work, and after work. Seeing him with all the tiny little wires and tubes was devastating, but we knew they were necessary.

One day, I came to visit him and I noticed a red mark on his face. The nurse walked over to me and asked cheerfully, ‘Do you notice anything different?’

‘Yeah! What the heck is this red mark on his face?!’ I growled in full mama bear fashion. Then it hit me, and I squealed, ‘His feeding tube is out!’

The next day we brought him home!

After we shared about our adoption on social media, we received THOUSANDS of messages, moments, and feedback! Most of them positive, but definitely not all of them. We got lots of messages with comments along the lines of, ‘How dare you adopt a white baby when there are so many black kids in the system?’ Or ‘Are you babysitting?’, ‘Are you the nanny?’ We’ve even had people have the audacity to ask, ‘Where is his mommy and daddy?!’ Even now, almost two and a half years later, people stop and stare or make rude comments. As if a black man and woman adopting outside of their race is so farfetched!

Even with all the messages and comments we got, we just wanted to keep growing our family. When Ezra was about three months old, we decided to start planning for our future. When looking at our options of how to grow our family we came across embryo donation.

Since our fertility struggle was male factor, we still had the desire to experience pregnancy, and the full birth experience. When someone has gone through in vitro fertilization to conceive, they may have left over embryos. They are given three options for the remaining embryos. Option one is to donate them to science to further research reproductive medicine. Option two is to discard them. Option three is to donate them to another individual, couple, or family looking to grow their family.

Since we had already adopted our son, we realized we only had the desire to become parents. We didn’t care if that meant biologically or otherwise! So, I posted all over social media that we were looking for donor embryos. We wanted to have an open relationship with our embryo donors – meaning we wanted any children conceived to be able to reach out to their genetic family, to grow up with their genetic siblings, and never wonder where they come from.

We joined a website called Nrfa.org, which is specifically designed to help facilitate matches between embryo donors and recipients. Within three weeks of making a profile, we had a match! We were interviewed by the donor family so they could get to know us better. Ultimately, they decided we were a perfect fit. After they were blessed with twin boys, they donated their three remaining embryos to us!

While we were going through the embryo donation paperwork with our lawyers, we received a message about a local couple who also wanted to donate embryos to us. They had a son who was conceived via IVF, then shortly after he was born, they were surprised with a miracle baby boy who was conceived naturally! They wanted to donate five of their ten remaining embryos to us.

We went from having no hope of ever conceiving a child, to the possibility of EIGHT in such a short amount of time! After going through four months of testing with our fertility clinic, we finally had a date to transfer our embryo. On August 19th, 2020, a couple weeks after our son’s first birthday, we implanted two embryos!

A week. It seems like such a short amount of time. But when you’re waiting to find out some of the most long-awaited news of your life, it feels like an eternity! About a week passed, and I took a home pregnancy test. It was POSITIVE!!! For the very first time, I WAS PREGNANT! Since we had made our fertility journey so public, we thought it was only fair to share our pregnancy immediately. Everyone was thrilled for us!

Unfortunately, our excitement was short lived. Three days later, we had a miscarriage. We were absolutely devastated. Not only did we have to go back and tell our family and friends we miscarried, we had to tell all our YouTube subscribers and Instagram followers too. It was like some sort of sick game. To finally be rewarded for all our suffering just to have it snatched away.

Although we were heartbroken, the end game hadn’t changed. We still wanted to grow our family and give our sweet boy a sibling. With only one embryo of our first batch remaining, we decided to use embryos from our second donor family. We hurried to finish all our paperwork with our new donors so we could transfer again immediately.

September 25th, 2020, we again transferred two embryos. This time, so cautiously optimistic, yet so grateful for another chance to grow our family. You’d think this time we would have kept everything hush hush. But we didn’t. We shared almost every single thing from start to finish.

On September 29th, with my husband standing over my shoulder, I took my first pregnancy test. The line was so faint. It was more of a shadow than a line. We held it up to a light and everything. Since we were unsure if it was a line or not, we decided it was negative.

The next day, Jarvis went to work. Since I was working from home, I had every opportunity to take as many pregnancy tests as I wanted. I was too nervous to take the pregnancy test alone, so I called our embryo donor, Sara, on FaceTime.

‘Hello?’

‘Hey! How are you?!’ I responded.

‘Did you take a test yet?!’ she asked.

‘I thought I saw a line yesterday, but I wasn’t sure!’ I laughed. ‘Will you do it with me? I think I’m going to take a digital test to be sure!’

‘Of course, I will!’ she exclaimed.

I propped my phone up and removed the blue package from the box. I ripped it open with my teeth and took the cap off the test. I nervously dipped the test in the cup of urine just out of camera view. I held the test window up to the camera so Sara could see it.

We both talked and laughed, nervously awaiting the results. A few minutes later, to both of our surprise, the test read in big bold letters: ‘PREGNANT!’ We both jumped with excitement! I couldn’t believe it. For the second month in a row, I was pregnant!

A few days later, I went to have blood work done and I was confirmed pregnant. ‘Come back at six weeks for your first ultrasound!’ they said. Boy, did those weeks dragggggggggg! Every day I wondered, ‘Is there one baby or two? Will I miscarry? Will there be a heartbeat?’

The day finally came! We drove to our fertility clinic hopeful but remaining realistic. I laid back on the table and watched the image appear on the screen. Immediately, I saw two dark sacks. I turned my head to look at my husband and smile. The ultrasound tech said, ‘We’ve got TWINS!!!’

We spent the next several months waiting and preparing, counting each and every milestone. 15 weeks, 20 weeks, 24 weeks. Once we reached viability week at 24 weeks, it felt like the weight had been lifted off our chests.

At 31 weeks, I started having a lot of pressure. I had been previously diagnosed with a short cervix, so pressure wasn’t abnormal for me. But I decided to get checked anyways. I went to the OB emergency room at the local hospital and they checked me for dilation. I was 4 centimeters dilated at 31 weeks and 4 days pregnant, and I had no idea!

It felt like someone had hit fast forward on a VCR. Nurses and doctors all started running around me. ‘What’s going on? Should I call my husband?’ I asked my primary nurse. ‘You’re going to have these babies soon! Yes, call him now!’ I called him and told him to grab my hospital bag that I packed just a few nights before.

My OBGYN came in. ‘Hey, I hear these babies aren’t waiting! Do you want to deliver here, or do you want to be transferred downtown where they are more equipped for premature babies?’ she asked.

‘Um… I’d like to be transferred. Just in case something goes wrong I’d like to be there since they transfer the babies there anyway.’ I said nervously

She walked swiftly out to get the paperwork started. A few minutes later, my nurse came in.

‘There are no ambulances available to take you downtown right now, so we’re going to have to life flight you to the hospital.’ She said.

‘Of course, my babies will enter the world as dramatic as their mama.’ I thought.

I called my husband to let him know about the changes. I told him to meet me downtown, and before I knew it, I was in the air. When I arrived at the hospital, the doctors already had a game plan. They decided to wait a few more days and put me on medication to try and stop my contractions. Two days had passed and my contractions were just as strong as ever, so they decided to go ahead and deliver my twins via C-section as planned.

On April 17th, 2021, I gave birth to my twin girls, Journee and Destinee, at 3 lbs. 3 oz. and 3 lbs. 8 oz. All the hard work, all the tears we had cried – it finally all made sense. Since they were born nine weeks early, they did have to spend some time in the NICU. After spending a couple days recovering from my C-section, I was discharged.

I couldn’t wait to get home to see Ezra! Not being able to pick him up and love on him was so hard. But I was just happy to see his face in person instead of on a screen. Trying to balance my time recovering with my son and in the NICU was so hard! But in the end, it was all worth it.

After 31 days, my girls came home! Such a long JOURNEE to get to our DESTINEE. The girls are now 8-months-old, and weigh 15 pounds each. They are crawling, pulling up, and love to eat! Ezra is an active two-and-a-half-year-old big brother and is loving every minute of it. If you thought we got rude comments and stares when we had Ezra, imagine how it is now. Me, a black woman, with a black husband, who carried and GAVE BIRTH to twin white and Hispanic babies, that we are now raising. It’s fun to keep people guessing.

I’ll never be able to express my gratitude to God, our donors, our family, and our incredible support system. If you’re struggling with infertility, don’t give up hope. You have options.”

8 Ways To Treat Migraine Headaches Without Medication

Migraines are really serious, intense headaches usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and intense sensitivity to light and sound. Migraines can cause nasal congestion and a runny nose, with a kind of feeling as if your head is going to explode.

According to Mayo Clinic, the root of migraines is still mostly unknown, although migraine patients can often recognize their triggers. Your migraine can be anything from hormonal changes, stress or even sudden climate changes.

Over 36 million Americans experience a migraine, or one in four households in the U.S. has someone who suffers from it.

Here are some suggestions on how to treat migraine headaches without medication:

1. Vicks VapoRub

Alison Jacobson, a blogger from Safety Mom, says that when she has a headache, applying Vicks VapoRub to her temples and forehead is so powerful, that eases the pain instantly.

Also, a peppermint essential is of great help, too. Just make sure to apply it directly on the forehead and temples, and the pain will disappear in 30 minutes.

2. Ice and banana peel compress

This might sound a bit wacky until you realize ice wrapped in a banana peel is nothing more than a potassium-rich cold compress. Applying cold compresses on your head and neck relieves the pain of a migraine.

3. Olive oil

A study by the “DAM” in Providence shows that olive oil a fish oil effectively decreases the severity, duration, and frequency of regular migraines in adolescents. Moreover, the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids found in them, prevent blood clotting.

4. Lavender oil

According to research published in European Neurology just two drops of lavender in a pot of boiling water is enough to soothe your throbbing migraine. In fact, lavender has the ability to boost mood, treat anxiety, lower high blood pressure, and relieve muscle spasms.

5. Flaxseed

Flaxseed is a superfood that ancient Egyptians used to manage migraines, constipation, hot flashes, and breast pain. Flax seeds are rich in fiber and omega-3 essential fatty acids, which promote brain function and lower the risk of heart disease.

6. Honey

The Foundation for Advancement in Cancer Therapy has found that consuming 2 teaspoons of raw honey during mealtimes can prevent migraine attacks. Also, you should take a tablespoon of honey at the first sign of the migraine in order to prevent it, as honey is instantly absorbed in the bloodstream.

7. Peanut butter and ginger

This treatment is suggested by the holistic therapists, which claims it’s the best remedy for migraine issues. Make a paste using peanut butter and grated ginger, and evenly apply it to the temples, thus helps the body receive magnesium and arginine.

8. Neck stretches

Muscle-tension can trigger or escalate a migraine. Stretch for 20 minutes twice a day to stop a headache. Start moving your chin forward, upward and toward your shoulders. You should hold your head in each position for five seconds then rest for five seconds.

‘Are you willing to take in a 17-year-old boy?’ He was months from aging out of the system, from being thrown into the real world with no home.’: Foster dad vows to give teen ‘the life he deserves’

“Imagine never knowing what a job felt like, how to support yourself financially, or having the skills and tools to navigate the real world. In the foster care system, turning 18 usually means never going back home, not being adopted, and then having to figure out your life. This is the case for many children who are aged out of foster care. The day they turn 18, they are thrown into the real world, and many end up on a new path of survival.

Homelessness, drug addiction, and difficulties finding or keeping jobs are just many of the trials and tribulations these children face. Most 18-year-olds are figuring out what college they want to attend, or some might even stay at home for a couple of extra years to get their footing in life while their parents help them. However, children in the foster care system are not given this option.

In the last four years, I have fostered 19 children between the ages of 2-11, and it had always been what I was used to. At the start of the pandemic, there was a shortage of foster parents, with a growing number of foster children. I received a call asking if I would be willing to take in a 17-year-old boy who would only need to stay with me for 12 months. Being hesitant at first but knowing the struggles the pandemic had brought on, I quickly said yes. Little did I know at the time, Zay would come into our lives and change them for the better!

At first, when he arrived he did everything in his power to try and sway my decision on taking him in. He was angry because for the 7th time, he would be meeting a new family. He told me many stories to try and scare me away, but no matter what he would say to me, I sat and listened. Many people that take the path of being a foster parent are looking to take in the younger children and overlook the teenagers. I am grateful that I took my teenager Zay in last year. Throughout the year I have watched Zay open up, and let himself become a part of our family. And now I have the opportunity to watch him grow into an amazing young man.

Zay turns 18 tomorrow, and we are excited to celebrate, knowing that his birthday will be filled with hope and excitement. Zay is a part of our family, even after he ages out of the foster care system. He will live with me and finish high school, and he will have the opportunity to stay here for years after he graduates, until he is ready to be on his own. And, when it comes time for him to learn about all of life’s responsibilities, I will be there to help him.

Tomorrow is a blessing, and I am grateful that I get this opportunity to continue to help Zay, and give him the life he deserves. I urge anyone looking into becoming a foster parent to not overlook taking in a teenager. You truly will be changing a child’s life.”

Expressing gratitude actually changes the molecular structure of the brain, thus affects the nervous system and brings positivity and peace.

Improves physical health

Expressing gratitude at higher levels promotes sleep, and also lower levels of anxiety and depression. Moreover, it reduces your inflammation, boosts your mood, lowers your risk of heart failure and “beats” your fatigue.

Gratitude and your brain

A neurological experiment led by researchers at the University of California we’re measuring the brain activity by using magnetic resonance. The participants were given gifts in order to provoke a feeling of gratitude.

The areas of the brain were giving much better motions in the anterior cingulate cortex and medial prefrontal cortex. Thus, led to the conclusion that the emotion of gratitude promotes a positive and supportive approach towards other people and releases stress.

Moreover, gratitude activates the hypothalamus, which impacts on metabolism, distinct behaviors, and stress. Placed at the base of the brain, its main function is to regulate hormones responsible for body temperature, appetite, sleep, emotional response, and other survival functions. Additionally, it affects dopamine a pleasure hormone.

In other words, gratitude gives you a sensation of self-worth and compassion for people around you.

Here are 3 steps on how to become more grateful:

In terms of hardship and stress, it might be really difficult to become grateful. But if you really think about it, we all have reasons to express gratitude. Here are three practical steps you can catch:

  • Keep a journal daily, and write down at least three things that make you feel grateful. Do it before you go to bed.
  • Every morning, while brushing your teeth, think of all the things that make you a good person.
  • Every day, tell your friend or partner the things you appreciate about them.

Kid brothers start their own business mowing dozens of lawns in their community

While most youngsters have spent their summer sleeping in and playing, three hardworking brothers have set up their own business and it’s proving to be a success in their local town.

Brothers Marcus, Travell and Marcelino McBride are just 12, 10 and 9 but have already set up their own business in their home city of Saginaw, Michigan.

Eldest brother Marcus decided he wanted to start a lawncare service a few months ago and with a little help from mom Terri Reed they started 3 Amigos Lawncare Service.

“Marcus told me that he wanted to start his own business doing lawn care work,” mom Terri told Michigan Live. “So, the following day, I got up and I purchased all their equipment and their work clothes.”

Now, with lots of hard work and determination, they have a long list of regular customers.

“I’m very proud of them,” their mom added. “They’re some hard working young boys.”

Now with the summer season nearing fall the three brothers plan to offer all-season services, clearing leaves and snow.

Proud mom Terri said her eldest son didn’t have any lawn care experience at the time, but he had a vision and “he likes to work.”

Throughout the summer the brothers have been busy mowing, weed whacking, edging, trimming, bagging and cleaning up.

“It’s going great. I didn’t expect them to be as busy as they are. It’s been crazy,” Terri said, who owns a number of rental properties in the area.

Now, with around 40 regular customers in the books the boys have earned enough money to put into an investment property.

“They are enjoying it,” she said of the business. “They have their weekly pay days and everything else goes into their business accounts.”

These boys deserve all their success and more. Such a great way to spend the summer.

Let’s wish them a happy and prosperous future in their new ventures by sharing this story.

LOS ANGELES — The average American wedding costs $30,000, but two California newlyweds managed to tie the knot on a $500 budget — with the dress, venue and reception included.

Kiara Brokenbrough didn’t want to go into debt starting her marriage with her husband, Joel, and focused on keeping things affordable for her wedding.

“Our goal was to just be as minimal as possible. And to spend the least amount of money as possible,” she told “Good Morning America.”

Kiara started small in spending for her big day with a dress from Shein that cost just $47.

“I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a dress because I had the mindset [that] I’m gonna wear this one time for a few hours,” she said.

The couple held their ceremony off the Angeles Crest Highway with Southern California’s San Gabriel and Sierra Pelona Mountains as a beautiful backdrop. Because they did not apply for a public permit, they only invited about 30 to 40 relatives and close friends, Kiara said on TikTok. They only needed to pay for chairs and an arch.

They also relied on support from loved ones for expenses: Kiara’s godmother gifted the couple flowers, and her godsister and aunt chipped in with a cake.

The wedding party then headed to the nearby Misty’s Lounge for the reception. They did not have a reservation but arrived right when the venue opened. This also meant that guests paid for food and drinks themselves.

“The people we have there, they understood the assignment. They understood the things that we were trying to do, and they really supported us,” Kiara said.

The Brokenbroughs hope that their wedding on a budget serves as inspiration to other couples thinking of taking the leap themselves. Kiara added that the most important thing to remember while planning a wedding is the couple’s number one goal: their marriage and life together.

Kind Man Buys Homeless Father A Hotel Room For A Week And Gives Him $1000

When a single father found himself homeless after moving to a new city, a random encounter with a kind stranger helped him get his life back on track.

James Moss had just moved to Denver from New York with his 2-year-old son in hopes of making a better life for the two of them. James had lined up a job and a place to live, but his living arrangements had fallen through, and he found himself staying on the streets and in a homeless shelter.

A British writer and TV host, Leon Logothetis, had just come to Denver while on a tour where he sought to promote random acts of kindness. He traveled and spoke with random people he encountered while walking around with the hope of encouraging them to be kind to others. After one of these chance encounters, Leon met James. He learned a little about James’ situation, and was impressed with how he was able to maintain a positive attitude in the midst of such a struggle of recently becoming homeless.

“I guarantee in a month’s time, I’ll make anything that I need to happen, happen,” James said. “You have to be brought down to your humblest point, so you can appreciate other things that are waiting for you.”

James shared that his son helps motivate him to keep a positive mindset, and that he maintains a sense of joy and peace through prayer and meditation.

After their friendly chat, Leon told James that he wanted to give him $1,000 to help him and his son. James was moved to tears.

On the spur of the moment, Leon also decided that he wanted to put James and his son in a hotel for the next seven days to make sure that they had a nice place to stay.

“Man you gotta be freakin kidding me man…. thank you so much man… I appreciate it man…” James told Leon as he hugged him.

Many hearts online appreciated Leon’s kindness for James and his son, and they also wanted to help. Kayla Heskett started a GoFundMe for James with the following note:

“James is an extraordinary father and man. Let’s make this [happen] for him and his son and show him some love and that there are still good people left in this world.”

With the help of kind hearts from around the globe, they were able to raise $56,560 to help James and his son get back on their feet and begin a new, peaceful life.

James was connected with a host family that let him stay with them after his hotel, and he was able to purchase a car. James said he plans to pay it forward by helping continue this blessing of kindness in his community.

“Just thought I’d post a quick update,” Kayla shared. “Thank you everyone for your donations and interest in James. He and his son are doing great, they have gotten a vehicle and are doing great things for the community by giving back. Thank you to the host family that they are staying with until they find what they need.”

James was deeply grateful to everyone who had helped and shown love to him and his son.

“I love you all, you’re like family to me now,” he shared in a video thank you note. “I never thought that an act of kindness like that would spark a huge chain reaction. I am so thankful, so grateful.”
