Mark Wahlberg talks about the importance of not “denying” his faith.

Mark Wahlberg, a well-known actor, and fervent Catholic, is recognized for his outspoken Catholicism. He proudly wears an ash cross on his forehead to mark the beginning of Lent, indicating his dedication to this holy season.

On the other hand, Wahlberg prefers to keep his personal relationship with God private. In a recent interview with co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, the 51-year-old actor discussed faith and finding a balance.

“It’s a delicate balance for me,” Wahlberg said. I never want to impose my faith on anyone and try to avoid doing so. That would be a more heinous crime.

Although it is not usually the most prevalent attitude in my profession, I cannot hide my opinions. I must share this aspect of my life with others.

It is, however, crucial to accept and value their various histories and faiths. After all, I have friends from different walks of life and religious backgrounds.”

Regarding his four children with his wife, Rhea Durham, Wahlberg believes in sharing but not imposing his faith on them. “I don’t impose it on them,” he emphasized, “but they know that I begin each day with prayer, Scripture reading, and Mass.”

Instead of feeling obligated, kids should see the beneficial influence it has on me and be naturally drawn to it, thinking, ‘If it works for Dad, maybe it will work for us.’”

During his interview with Savannah, Wahlberg elaborated on his Lenten devotion and the fasting times accompanying it. He revealed his habits as a guest narrator and paid advocate for the Catholic prayer app Hallow.

“It’s important to recognize that fasting encompasses more than just abstaining from food, especially for those who struggle with eating disorders,” Wahlberg said. God knows what we need to separate ourselves from.”

“We’ve all experienced actions that make us feel less than our best and burdened with guilt. Fasting allows us to break free from bad habits and focus on building good ones. Fasting, on the other hand, has its drawbacks.

For example, I’m not eating any meat today, and I’ll do so every Friday until Good Friday when I’ll eat one meal.” Wahlberg will provide enlightened teachings on fasting as part of the Pray40 Lent Challenge on the Hallow app to provide additional guidance and motivation.

According to Wahlberg, the discipline required during Lent encourages people to become better versions of themselves. Throughout his life, he has personally observed the transformational impacts of the domain.

“Discipline has always played a pivotal role in my life,” he said. I discovered I required greater discipline when I switched from music to acting. This discipline has enriched my life in various ways, and I am eager to share it with others.

These activities are vital, whether through fasting, physical activity, minimizing distractions, or simply committing more time to prayer and meditation.”

When asked to summarize his religious beliefs, Wahlberg stated emphatically, “It’s everything to me.” “My faith has opened countless doors for me,” he continued. God did not come to save only the loyal but also to redeem the guilty. By putting my faith first, I could go on a road of self-improvement, which we all aim for.”

Mark Wahlberg’s unwavering adherence to his Catholic faith serves as an example for many people. Through his acts and words, he encourages others to investigate their spirituality and find consolation in their profound connection with a higher force.
