How A Rescued Bear, Tiger, And Lion Became The Best Of Friends For Life

For 15 years, the unlikely trio of a lion, a bear, and a tiger have been best friends, against all odds

Leo the lion, Baloo the bear, and Shere Khan the tiger have been living peacefully at Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter in Georgia.

Rescued from the basement of a house in Atlanta during a drug raid by the police, it was a severe case of animal abuse.

They were so malnourished, that their only chance of recovering was to be taken to the sanctuary.

That was also the only time the trio were separated, once they were rescued, they spent every day together in bliss.

“We could have separated them, but since they came as a kind of family, the zoo decided to keep them together,” Diane Smith, Noah’s Ark’s assistant director told The Telegraph in 2009.

The trio grew closer and closer as time went on during their time at the sanctuary.

“Baloo, Leo, and Shere Khan eat, sleep, and play together and even seek out grooming and affection from one another, head rubbing and licking each another.”

“Their terrifying early months in life bonded the three together and they are truly inseparable despite their obvious differences.”

As time went on, three became two in 2016 after Leo passed away. In 2018, Shere Khan became the second of the trio to pass over to the other side.

Since bears, tigers, and lions are all from different continents, this group of friends is almost impossible in the real world.

Yet despite their vast differences, the trio get along like brothers and are completely inseparable.
