Cat was quite shy when Mindy Criner and her husband Luke initially adopted him from the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in Virginia. His default position was to sit off to the side while the other kittens played, but Criner suspected he simply needed a family to bring out his confidence.

“You could tell in his eyes that all he wanted was love,” Criner told The Dodo.

It took some effort, but Cat was soon settled into his new home and smitten with every member of his new family. When his parents had a baby, he fell in love with him right away, and there was never any doubt that the pair had made the correct decision in taking a chance on that shy little cat.

Cat grew in confidence after joining his family, and he enjoyed wandering around his yard and exploring. Criner tried to call Cat inside after another round of exploration one day, but he was nowhere to be found.

Criner, who was in a panic, quickly contacted the woman who administers the Lost & Found Pets – Hampton Roads, VA, Facebook page to ask for her help in spreading the news, and she and her husband did everything they could to return Cat home. They left a litter box and food outdoors in the hopes that the familiar odors would help him find his way home. They placed little housing stations across the area and had friends check them whenever they could. They put a countless posters. Every night, they walked throughout the neighborhood yelling his name, but they soon gave up hope.

“Weeks stretched into a year, then a bit more, and every day that break in my damaged heart grew a little bigger,” Criner explained.

Then, 536 days after Cat went missing, Criner got the call she never thought would come. Someone had found him.

“I assumed that had to be a mistake,” Criner explained. “The message from animal control instructed me to contact Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in order to locate him.” I drove as fast as the law permitted to the shelter and entered through the door fighting back tears.”

When Criner arrived to the shelter, she was told that a man had been feeding Cat, whom he mistook for a stray, for approximately a year. After Cat was hit by a car but survived, the guy notified animal control, who searched for a microchip and revealed Cat’s real identity.

Criner instantly contacted the man who had discovered Cat and drove over to his house. Cat was sitting on the porch having a snack when she arrived, and as soon as they saw each other, it was as if no time had passed at all.

“I sat on the stairs and invited him to come up to me in case he was frightened, and he jumped straight onto my lap and purred,” Criner explained. “I started coming towards the car where my husband, Luke (who has a really unique voice), was chatting to the person who had been feeding him, and Cat purred louder than I believed possible and gave me that first super long head boop.” It’s as though he nudged a small piece of my damaged heart back into place.”

Cat knew he was finally heading home the moment he spotted his family, and he couldn’t have been happier.

When they returned home, Cat settled in almost immediately, welcoming his furry siblings and reclaiming all of his old spots as if he’d never left. A volunteer in Carson City, California, picked up a little, single cat earlier this month. The kid was little and in desperate need of attention.

The kitten in need of a foster home has been briefed by animal rights campaigners Wrenn Rescues in Ventura County. “The young kid was incredibly little,” says Alyssa Smith, co-founder of the animal rights nonprofit. “He’s probably around four weeks old, but he’s about the size of a one-week-old.”

Erin and her 11-year-old son Chris offered to assist with the foster care. They didn’t know how small the kitten was until they held it in their hands.

“He was just 240 grams,” Erin says. “It was half the size it was meant to be, and the corners were a little rough.” We named him after a mouse since we felt he looked like one.”

The kitten was bathed, and he was fed every few hours by the hour.

Fluffy’s favorite spot and activity was climbing onto a human shoulder and purring loudly.

“He likes to perch on my shoulder and look around,” Erin explains.

“When he doesn’t doze off, doesn’t caress, and doesn’t eat, he sits on someone’s shoulder and feels like the master of the situation.”

Over the next few days, the baby began to gain weight.

He made up for his lack of size with his flamboyant personality, even though he was still quite small. He started running furiously as soon as he figured out how to use his four legs.

“All he wants to do is run over the shoulder next to him.”

The mouse gains weight and learns to play overtime. He perseveres in the face of adversity, despite his distaste for food.

“The quieter you are, the further you will travel!”

Erin and her son took turns feeding the kitten to keep up with his diet.

“What else do you need besides his purr and caress?” Erin says.

“We will all be delighted when he gains at least a pound of weight.”

Oreo, the cat of the overexposure owner, became involved in the case. Orphaned kittens are a favorite of this adorable black and white cat.

Erin adds, “He adores hanging out with our adopted kittens and seemed to enjoy looking after them.”

Despite his tough upbringing, the Mouse is a loving and purring creature.

“I hope he matures as he learns to play, stomp, frolic with toys, and purr,” Erin adds.

“He is a real gem, and we know that over time he will turn into a beautiful diamond!”

Bea is one of six cats at Look Ahead Vet in Oroville, California.

“The girls’ names are Elfie, Uno, Bea, and Peggy, while the boys’ names are OJ and Theo,” Crystal Bessmer, an animal hospital vet tech, told The Dodo. “They were presented to us at different periods by different clients.” They were all found as stray kittens, with the majority of them suffering from terrible injuries.”

The ragtag group of rescued cats has become one large family, and they are never happier than when they are together. The cats have complete control of the facility and play a significant role in making patients and their caregivers feel better.

“It’s a really large indoor hospital, so kids have plenty of freedom to go around and explore,” Bessmer explained. “We all care for them with love and snuggles throughout the day, and our clients adore them.” They’ve been really beneficial for both our clients and us.”

Each cat has a certain task, and Bea, the tailless tabby, is in charge of the nursing department. She goes through the hospital touching each animal, whether they beg for it or not.

“She’s usually very inquisitive and kind,” Bessmer remarked. “She likes to walk up to them and often just slowly put her hand in to check them out. She’ll even pet them on occasion.”

“She adores everyone, especially the new cat, Peggy,” she continued. “She’s always been like way. She doesn’t appear to be terrified of anything, not even the biggest farm animals.”

Bea may be the nursing cat of the group, but all six kittens contribute to the smooth operation of the animal hospital on a daily basis.

“Theo is unquestionably the comforter… “He can detect when someone is upset and will go sit on their lap,” Bessmer explained. “Elfie is the head of security since she’s a little spicy and likes to dash toward the mayhem.” Our doorman’s name is OJ. He enjoys hanging around near the door and greeting everyone. Our babysitter’s name is Uno. She enjoys keeping an eye on puppies and kittens in particular. Finally, we have Peggy, our newest addition. Because she’s still rather young, we refer to her as the ‘hospital Cat in training’ or ‘intern.’”

A cat named Tiny ended up in a shelter with his sister.

The animals were not attached to each other, so they could be adopted separately. On the site of the shelter, photos of all the “residents” of the shelter were published and brief information about them was provided.

A 10-year-old cat, Tiny has been waiting for his owner for a long time. He was sad that young kittens and even adult cats counld quickly find homes for themselves, and he remained in the shelter.

Meanwhile, a little boy on the other side of town was trying to convince his mother to let him keep a pet. Easton was very fond of animals and wanted to adopt either a cat or a dog. Finally, having received permission from his mother, he opened the site of the shelter and began to look at the animal charts.

And when Easton saw Tiny’s photo, the boy realized that he found his pet. The next morning, he went to the shelter with his mother to meet the cat.

Tiny turned out to be a sweet, friendly cat with a big soft belly. The ginger cat jumped into the boy’s arms and “ordered” him to go home!

“Even my mother fell in love with a chubby cat with big devoted eyes”, said the boy.

Both the cat and the boy are glad that they met each other!

UNITED KINGDOM – An abandoned cat that was found with its fur completely matted and even bald in places, red raw, scared and hungry has been given a new lease of life.

Ronnie was picked up by a rescue center after a member of the public discovered him living in a shed in Boston.

His fur was so matted that vets at Pilgrim Vets had to completely shave Ronnie and then they neutered him.

Ronnie was picked up by a rescue centre after a member of the public found him living in a shed in Boston.

Ronnie’s current owner, Lisa Hollick, explained that she had approached Lincs Ark to enquire about adopting a cat in 2013.

However, she was asked to temporarily foster Ronnie, who is believed to be about four years old, and she ended up falling in love with him.

“We approached Lincs Ark for a house check to adopt a cat. The following day they called, desperate to place a cat with us, temporarily for fostering, as he was in no condition to be put up for adoption.

“He had been found as a stray, living in a shed but details were scarce. He was totally matted and had to be shaved and have ‘the op’.

“We collected him from the vet’s and he was in a sorry state – partly bald, red raw, scared and hungry.

“After a few hours, he started making this little cute little chirrup noise to us.

“Over time he settled down, stopped stealing food, his fur grew and he put on weight and grew, and grew and grew. We never gave him back and ended up adopting him.

“He’s turned into a big, beautiful, long-haired, gray and white cat.”

Ronnie has made a brilliant recovery.

Ronnie is believed to be a Chinchilla/British longhair breed and has recently been shortlisted in the Royal Canin Rescue Cat of the Year competition.

Ronnie and 19 other finalists were chosen out of more than 1,000 entries and members of the public are now being urged to vote for their favorite.

If Ronnie wins, Ronnie will get a selection of goodies and Lincs Ark will receive a month’s worth of food for 50 cats.

Steve the cat was just a normal indoor cat. That is – until he became the leader of a flock of baby sheep.

His own personal identity crisis began when his human, whose name is Amanda Whitlock, brought the baby sheep indoor in the winter. Steve and the lambs hit it off so well that when the sheep were released back into the pasture, Steve came with them!

“He’d just sort of got used to them and spend time with them inside and then the lambs move outside and we started noticing Steve wasn’t inside anymore and we’re like ‘where’s Steve?’”

MARYLAND – Usually, it is quite difficult for humans to face death – especially when they know that they have such a little amount of time left on this Earth to live.

We would guess that most of these people try to spend these days doing the good things or enjoying what they like most.

This time, a woman in Maryland, who knew that her living time is coming to an end, decided to write a letter for the future owner of her cat, whose name is Susie.

In the letter, she expressed the love that she had for her cat from the beginning. After the woman passed, her son came into a shelter with the cat.

Since he wouldn’t be able to take care of Susie because of rental restrictions at the building where he was living, he decided to take this cat to this shelter bringing along the note that was written by his late mother.

SOUTH KOREA – A furry feline that had once been deemed “unadoptable” now has a forever home and a new life, thanks to one woman’s act of kindness. A small kitten, who was named Jon Snow, was found on a dark street in South Korea, suffering from several health conditions. The cat was completely starved, dehydrated, and suffering from a severe upper respiratory infection. Little Jon Snow was immediately taken to a public kill shelter to live out his final days in a small wire cage with a plate of food and a blanket, the kitty equivalent of death row.

However, just when all hope was lost, Rachel Brown inquired about the winter-white cat for possible adoption. She had spent many weeks in search of the perfect cat to welcome into her home.

When she arrived to finally meet Jon Snow, she saw just how tired and depressed he was, but knew she finally had found the right kitten.

“As soon as I saw him, my heart leaped and then sank,” Brown explained to Inside Edition. “I instantly loved him, but he looked so sick and so sad.”

Brown stated that the minute she saw him, she couldn’t get him off her mind. Although the employees at the shelter told her the cat would never make it, she was determined to bring him home.

She filled out all of the paperwork to release her new four-legged friend and immediately rushed him to an emergency veterinary facility.

“When I took Jon out of the shelter, I think he knew he had been saved,” stated Brown. “While we were traveling on trains to the vet, he wanted to keep me in his sight; if he couldn’t see me through the mesh, he would meow.”

When they arrived at the vet, the doctors informed Brown that Jon had no chance of survival. According to Brown, they discovered he had corona virus, which is usually fatal and incurable.

“I couldn’t give up on him,” she said.

On the third day of his hospitalization, the cat suddenly began to eat normally after being placed on an IV drip. He had a surprising boost of energy and even started to play to his heart’s content. After the fifth day, Jon Snow was actually better than ever.

The doctors took him off the IV and his blood tests came back completely normal. The curious cat now lives peacefully, following his new owner all around the house and sleeping soundly on several pillows.

“He is the happiest kitty and that makes me so happy,” Brown stated.

Senior dogs indeed make wonderful companions.

Anyone who has adopted a senior dog knows just how charming these animals can be.

Sadly, there are still a lot of people treat the process of welcoming a companion animal into their home as a shopping experience and are always looking for the cutest and youngest pups.

This most certainly leaves lovable and deserving senior dogs in shelters where they can become unbearably lonely. Thankfully, though, there are people out there who are willing to give a senior dog a chance.

Take Julie Docherty, who own not one, but four senior chihuahuas!

Their names are MoMo, Choli, Paloma, and Benito spend their days eating, napping, sunbathing, and just making the most of their golden years.

These guys have gotten pretty used to their way of life but just recently, their world was rocked when Julie arrived home with a mysterious bundle of fur in her arms – a kitty! At less than one month old, this kitten, now named Rosita, was unsurprisingly full of energy and always ready to play.

The quad-squad was a little leery of Rosita at first, but before no time they were hangin’ out like they had been together their whole lives. Meet the crew! It may take you a second to locate Rosita, but keep looking, she most certainly is there!

Actually, Julie didn’t just adopt Rosita. She actually rescued her.

Some people had been tossing the innocent creature around and Julie just knew she had to take in this little kitty and give her a better life.

It’s an amazing relationship!

Rosita has gotten so close to the pups that sometimes it’s actually quite hard to even tell them apart!

Sometimes they even sleep in each other’s beds!

MISSOURI – Happiness is a basketful of cats, indeed!

This was Carol Heizman’s dying wish! She has always been a cat lover!

And so the folks at Groves Community Hospice in Kansas City, where Heizman is a resident, just knew they had to make her wish come true.

This past Monday, the Great Plains SPCA took five kittens to visit Heizman. Four of the babies, just six weeks old, came from the same litter. The lone black cat, who is only four weeks old, came from another.

“We brought not just one, but a whole basket of kittens to snuggle up to,” the SPCA mentioned on its Facebook page.

Heizman smiled at the five tiny fur babies rolling around in a huge wicker basket.

“Look at all those cute little guys,” she declared as the babies tried to crawl out of the basket.

“Oh, they’re so precious.”

Hospice workers wrapped each kitten in a baby blanket. Heizman held each and every one of then.

One even managed to walk across her shoulders.

“We all know that pets can sometimes be just what the doctor ordered,” the SPCA commented about the visit.

The hospice center has been busy trying to fulfill residents’ wishes through its “Happiness Is” project.

The requests have been mostly simple ones, explained Rhonda Sullivan, community relations coordinator for GC Hospice.

Right now she’s working on one resident’s request to hear some classical piano music.

The SPCA filmed the entire kitty visit with Heizman and posted it to its Facebook page, where it has been viewed more than 63,000 times since just Wednesday.

Many viewers wanted to know the same thing – if these particular kitties can be adopted.

The SPCA stated they’ll be available when they’re about eight weeks old.

Those who love animals can go to any extent for their animal. It doesn’t matter what the difficulty is but their main concern is the safety of their animal.

A similar incident happened when a man fights an alligator to save his dog. The video of the incident has gone viral and since then praise has been pouring in for the bravery of the man.

Richard Wilbanks went for his usual Sunday morning walk by the edge of the pool with his puppy Gunner a Cavalier King Charles spaniel in Estero, Fla., when suddenly his puppy was attacked by an alligator. According to Wilbanks the alligator came out from under the water very quickly and got hold of the puppy and was dragging him back into the water.

Wilbanks just acted on his instinct and without thinking much jumped into the pond to save his dog. He took hold of the alligator and dragged the alligator near the bank and freed his puppy from it.

As the alligator was a small one, he didn’t face much problem in tackling it. He very easily brought the alligator near the bank but it was quite difficult to open its jaws and free the dog which was held from its belly.

Wilbanks further said that he never expected that the reptile can be that fast. But he is happy that his three-month-old puppy is safe and only got one deep wound and now he is healing well while Wilbanks himself got few wounds on his hands.

This whole incident is recorded on surveillance cameras put up by the Florida Wildlife Foundation and fStop Foundation. The main motive of this group is to see the wildlife activity around the homes which are near the wild areas, and how animals can co-exist with humans.

This recording was founded by the group as they were going through the camera. Wilbanks said that he developed a healthy bond with that pond and he didn’t want to hurt the alligator. That place was the alligator’s home and he has not done anything wrong.

Animals can sense if someone is in need of help or love. They can run to provide that help. One hospital at Look Ahead Vet in Oroville, California has six cats that live and work there.

The females are Elfie, Uno, Bea, and Peggy and the males are Oj and Theo. They were brought to them at different times by different people. All these cats were strays and had suffered severe injuries.

But now they have become one big family and they work in the hospital. Their role is to help the patients and their owners feel better.

One of the cats, Bae is particularly able to sense who is not feeling better and she knows how to make everyone feel better. It is said that she has a healing touch.

She is the head of the nursing department and she makes her rounds in the hospital, petting each animal. According to Crystal Bessmer, a vet tech at the animal hospital, Bae is very curious and she is very gentle. She loves to walk up to the animals and puts her hand in slowly to check them out.

Bae loves everyone and she is always like that. She is not afraid of anything, even the big farm animals. There are different roles taken by all six cats. Theo is the comforter who knows when someone is sad.

Elfie is the head of the security department as she likes to run towards the chaos. Oj is the doorman who greets everyone. Uno is the babysitter who loves to watch puppies and kittens. Peggy is the youngest of all, he is called the hospital cat in training or intern.

These cats perform their duties very well for the smooth running of the hospital. They provide much-needed help to their coworkers.

Really these cats are the assets for the hospital. Everyone loves them and cares for them. They have proved to be therapeutic for the clients and workers.
