A Utah paint shop that specializes in motorcycles and classic cars has designed a customized coffin for a fallen police dog.

Hondo, a K-9 from the Herriman City Police Department, was shot while helping police officers who arrested a fugitive in Salt Lake City on Feb. 13. Hondo sustained a gunshot wound to the sternum and died at a nearby veterinary hospital.

The police department contacted Rawtin Garage with an urgent request to honor Honda’s life: a custom coffin…

It took 24 hours for the store to complete the coffin and they didn’t charge for their work. Their services usually require a two-month waiting period.

It’s hard work, but there’s an incredible sense of satisfaction, Ward told the station according to FoxNews. This dog is truly a hero.

In a strange way, it was a kind of spiritual experience, Eccles, an artist who drew dogs by hand, told KSL-TV. You feel like, when you’re done, you’ve really met Honda.

Hondo assisted his partner, a sergeant. Ben Ricks, with over 100 crimes arrested. He was ranked at the top of the best K-9s in the state of Utah, and according to Carr, he placed first in international tests in 2018.

The police chief had the following to say at a February 14 press conference: “PSD Hondo was a true warrior then his actions ensured that his loving friend and partner Ben [Ricks] would able to return home to his wife, children, and HPD family. We mourn the loss of our member of our family but we remember the sacrifice.”

Hondo’s memorial service was held on Saturday.
