Greg Heynen was one of them. Until he saw the amazing thing that his wife’s dog Zack did after his daughter was born…

This is Greg’s story:

My wife and I owned two dogs that we had owned before we met and brought into the marriage. Her dog was a pit bull/labrador cross named Zack, and he hated me. When our daughter was born, I said to the wife, “If he so much as nips at the baby, he’s gone.”

We brought our daughter home in a car seat, and both dogs sniffed and licked her, tails wagging. I had to pull Zack away from her because he wouldn’t stop licking her. Zack immediately became my daughter’s protector, and when she was lying on a blanket on the floor, he always had to have one foot on the blanket.

Zack loved my daughter immensely, and when she became a little older always walked her to bed, and then slept on the bed with her. He somehow knew whenever it was time to go upstairs, and he would wait at the foot of the stairs for her, and then follow her up to bed.

Zack was poisoned by some dirtbag neighbor kids, and we had one of the worst days of our lives. Watching my daughter say goodbye to him as he laid still on the kitchen floor, my wife and I were both sobbing.

At 8:00 that night, my daughter walked to the stairs to go to bed. At that moment, all three of us realized what was about to happen. After 5 years, she didn’t have Zack to accompany her upstairs. She looked at her mother and me with a look of horror and panic.

It was at that moment that my dog, who loved my daughter dearly but was not in Zacks league, stood up, walked over to her, and nudged her with his head. He put his foot on the stairs and looked up at her. They walked up to the bed, with my daughter holding tightly to his neck.

For the next 6 years, until he died, Sam waited for her by the stairs each night.

Body pulled from Illinois River Confirmed As That Of Missing 25-Year-Old Student Jelani Day – Sest In Peace

A body found floating in the Illinois River has been confirmed as that of missing graduate student Jelani Day by the coroner of LaSelle County, according to reports.

On Thursday, a news release shared by the Bloomington Police Department, detailed how Day’s identity had been confirmed through forensic dental identification and DNA testing and comparison. The cause of death remains unknown at the time of writing.

Earlier this week, Day’s mother, Carmen Bolden Day, had urged for more help in finding her son in the wake of the intense media attention given to the case of Gabby Petito.

“What I want them to do, is to realize that Jelani is everybody, so he could be your brother, he could be your cousin, he could be your nephew, he could be a grandson. And you want somebody to look for him or somebody to find him, and that’s all I want. I want my son,” Carmen Bolden Day said.

25-year-old Day, a student at Illinois State University, was reported missing on August 25 in Bloomington, Illinois, having been last seen a day before on August 24. On August 26, his vehicle was located in Peru, Illinois.

Officer John Fermon with the Bloomington Police Department said there had been extensive K-9 searches conducted by Illinois State Police, as well as drone aerial searches by local jurisdictions and ground searches. Nothing was found, however.

Then, on September 4, a body was pulled from the Illinois River.

“We got some information to give us that second search,” Fermon explained, as per CNN.

“We were getting tips in, but that’s really as far as I’ll get. We were getting some tips in from around that location.”

Though he did not confirm whether or not Day’s death would be classed as a homicide, he did admit there were questions yet to be answered.

“Foul play or not, it’s unusual,” he said.

My heart goes out to the family of Jelani Day. We pray that answers – however terrible they may be – can give them some form of closure.

John Walsh Says His Hotline Has “blown up” With Tips About Brian Laundrie’s Whereabouts After Gabby Petito’s Death

Former “America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh says his hotline has blown up after appealing to the public for help in finding Gabby Petito‘s fiancée Brian Laundrie.

As the FBI spend their sixth day at the 24,000-acre Carlton Reserve, in Florida, in search of him Walsh says he believes the public will be the ones to find him.

“We did get multiple tips yesterday, our hotline blew up because it’s the people that will find this guy,” Walsh told Fox News.

“I tell people you can text me, you can call me. I don’t trace, I don’t tap the phone. I know people don’t want to call cops because they think they’ll get dragged into it.

“I don’t care if you’re legal, illegal, where you are, just text me or call me. And that’s how I’ve caught all these people because the public is my supporters.”

Brian‘s parents reported their son missing on Sept. 17, three days after he told them he was going on a hike to the reserve.

Two days later his fiancée Gabby Petito’s body was found at the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the case has since been declared a homicide.

John Walsh, the 75-year-old victims’ advocate and host of the TV show “In Pursuit With John Walsh,” has criticized law enforcement’s handling of the case telling USA Today several errors had been made.

Walsh said the story that Laundrie went for a hike at Carlton Reserve was a “red herring” and the only person of interest in this case is now long gone.

“They spent all that revenue, looking for him now, a day late and a dollar short,” Walsh said.

He said officers should have asked for ‘proof of life’ from Laundrie’s parents when their son was allegedly at the family home in Florida.

“I understand the Fifth Amendment, I understand that Brian doesn’t want to talk to the cops and his family doesn’t want to talk to cops, as despicable as that is, but the cops could ask for proof of life,” he said.

Walsh added that officers should have parked outside the Laundrie family home and followed anyone going in and out, as he questioned whether Laundrie was actually at the house when his parents said he was.

“All this time, the FBI and the North Port police have been going on the word” of Laundrie’s parents and their lawyer “that he’s in the house,” Walsh said, as per the New York Post.

Officers should have also stationed cars on the street on either side of the Laundrie home and arranged for an unmarked car to tail anyone leaving the home, Walsh said.

But despite Laundrie returning home on September 1 and Gabby Petito’s parents reporting her missing on September 11, the 23-year-old was not, at the time, considered a suspect.

“It is important to note that while Brian is a person of interest in Gabby’s disappearance, he is not wanted for a crime,” North Port police said in a statement before her body was found in Wyoming last weekend.

However, on Thursday, the FBI announced that an arrest warrant had been issued for Brian Laundrie in relation to a grand jury indictment for his “activities following the death of Gabrielle Petito.

“We urge individuals with knowledge of Mr. Laundrie’s role in this matter or his current whereabouts to contact the FBI,” Special Agent Michael Schneider wrote in a statement, as per NBC News.

The FBI alleges that Laundrie “knowingly and with intent to defraud, used one or more unauthorized access devices, namely a Capitol One Bank debit card” and personal identification numbers for two accounts.

Bindi Irwin’s Daughter Grace Meets A Wallaby And Just Wants To Give It A Hug

It’s been 15 years since we lost the legendary TV host and conservationist Steve Irwin, but his legacy of caring for wildlife lives on through his family.

His wife Terri and their children Bindi and Robert have continued to do great work at the Australia Zoo, inspiring people around the world to care about wildlife and protecting their local animals, including saving over 90,000 animals during last year’s bushfires.

And that love of animals has clearly lived on into the next generation of Irwins: Bindi’s daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, born in March, has already gotten up close with many animals, and is following in her family’s footsteps as the littlest “wildlife warrior.”

Recently, the family posted a heartwarming photo of baby Grace meeting a wallaby, and it’s truly adorable.

The photo was shared by Chandler Powell, Bindi’s husband and Grace’s father. Grace is reaching out her hands as if to hug the animal. “I just want to hug you!” Chandler captioned the photo.

While she’s still just a baby, Grace has spent her whole life surrounded by animals at her family’s zoo, and has been up-close with them practically since she was born.

In April, the family shared the “wonderful moment” when Grace met some chickens:

And in May, the couple shared a photo of Grace meeting a koala for the first time.

Koalas are both an iconic part of Australia, and a big part of the Irwin legacy — many fans remember photos of Steve caring for koalas back in the day, so seeing Grace face-to-face with a koala was a heartwarming moment.

“We have had lots of smiles, the best giggles and we’ve met a koala! We love you, Grace Warrior,” Chandler wrote.

It’s clear that Grace is already being raised to love and respect animals and nature. While Bindi has said she will let her daughter follow her own passions in life, she hopes that being raised at the Australia Zoo will make an impact on how she sees the world.

“Everything we do is to create positive change on the planet and protect as many beautiful animal species as we can,” she told The Bump in February, shortly before Grace was born. “I’m so excited for our daughter to grow up learning about the importance of giving back and making a difference in the world for the future generations.”

“I can’t wait to experience the magic of the world all over again through her eyes. Watching her grow and find her own passions in life will be such a gift.”

It’s clear that Steve Irwin’s legacy is alive and well in his granddaughter. In a tribute to her dad written this month on the 15th anniversary of his passing, Bindi said that Grace has watched Steve on TV and knows him as “Grandpa Crocodile,” and Bindi knows he’s looking after her.

“I wish that Dad could hug my beautiful girl,” Bindi wrote. “I hold on to the thought that he’s her guardian angel now, watching over the most special part of my life, Grace.”

Hannah was 16 years old and Donovan was hobbling along on crutches having just sprained his ankle in football practice when she asked him for directions to find the gym her brother was in.

““It was a cool, Fall evening in Arizona the night I met my husband. I was 16 years old and having recently gotten my driver’s license, it made me the perfect chauffer for my 13-year-old brother who was too cool to get rides from mom and dad. I drove to the high school my brother’s club basketball practice was being held at to pick him up. His practice was running late so I navigated the unfamiliar campus looking for the gymnasium to wait for him in there. I was headed toward a random entrance when a football player named Donovan walked out on crutches, holding a bag of ice. I immediately noticed his black, curly hair and his charming smile as he attempted to smile at me through his obvious pain. ‘You okay there?,’ I asked, noticing his limp. He told me he had just sprained his ankle during football practice and asked me what I was doing there, knowing I wasn’t a student there. I told him I was looking for the gym to pick up my brother and he quickly connected the dots, observing my red hair, and said, ‘Oh, your brother’s the red headed kid who’s always here?’ After exchanging a few words and sharing a few flirtatious, coy smiles, he showed me how to find the gym. I thanked him and told him, ‘I’m so glad I ran into you,’ and it wasn’t just because of his directions,” Hannah told Love What Matters.

The two, from Arizona, met up in Starbucks a few weeks later and spent most of the evening talking.

”About an hour after his white chocolate peppermint mocha and my caramel vanilla bean frappuccino were gone, the barista who was sweeping the floor around us told us, ‘You guys must really like each other if you’ve been here this long talking and haven’t ordered a second drink.’ He was onto something,” Hannah said.

A month later a scavenger hunt led Hannah to the town’s enormous Christmas tree, where Donovan was waiting to ask me to the winter formal, their first official date.

The two became close basing their relationship first on friendship but they would face the ultimate test when they left high school and went to two different colleges.

Like most relationships which face distance it ended but a non-refundable flight to Montana where Donovan was put them in each other’s path again and they were reminded of why they had fallen in love in the first place.

“It was like déjà vu when I got off the plane in Montana and saw him with his curly, black hair and charming smile once again, waiting for me outside the gate on crutches,” Hannah said of Donovan who was recovering from knee surgery.

At 19 years old they realized there was nobody else they wanted to be with and decided to get married.

”We were only 19 years old and despite so many people telling me, ‘You’re going to regret this,’ I was so sure. Even now, four years later, I’ve never been more sure about anything. Today we thank ourselves for following our hearts and nobody else’s opinion. Getting married at 19 was not trendy, but it’s our unique love story,” Hannah said.

Their idea was met with a lot of skepticism from family and friends who thought they were too young and warned they they would regret it.

“Getting married at 19 was not trendy, but it’s our unique love story. We’re not just growing old together; we’re growing up together.”

War Veteran, 93, Dies After 21-Hour Power Outage Cuts Off His Oxygen Machine

A 93-year-old Korean War veteran has lived at the same address in Pittsburgh for 60 years.

Despite him relying on oxygen Tom Wraith lives independently and is still driving and preparing his own meals.

On Sunday his daughter Janet Zleriak stayed with her father until 5 pm and expected her usual daily call from him on Monday.

But when she didn’t receive a call alarm bells rang and she raced over to her father’s home.

A severe storm hit the area overnight and into the morning shutting power off to more than 20,000 residents.

The power outage had shut off her dad’s oxygen supply and her worst fears were realized when she arrived at his home Monday morning.

“I walk in the living room. My dad fell like a pillow. And his oxygen was hanging from his nose. And I just shouted. I grabbed him, and it was so It was cold,” Janet said, as per Pennsylvania News Today citing WTAE.

A neighbor told her their street had lost power for 21 hours.

“This wasn’t required. Why would it turn off for so many hours?” she added.

Due to the lack of power, both his main oxygen system and subsequent portable oxygen units were out of order. Both his landline and cell phone were also off due to the power outage.

Now his daughter wants answers from the energy company serving the area.

“There was no reason for him to die,” she said.

Duquesne Light, the energy company serving the area, said they had not received any communication from the Wraith family but added their hearts were with them during this difficult time.

“The Sunday storm was the most serious storm we have experienced this year. It affected our recovery efforts on Monday night, leaving widespread damage and additional storms throughout our service area,” Wollie Geitner, communications director at Duquesne Light Company, wrote in an email.

“More than 250 line workers and field crews worked 24 hours a day to restore power to 20,000 homes and and their work continues.”
