Abandoned and alone, severely dehydrated and emaciated, sharing an unbreakable bond was all that kept them going!

ABANDONED AND ALONE IN A BACKYARD, BOTH MISSING A PAW, ALL THEY HAD WAS EACH OTHER, FORMING AN UNBREAKABLE BOND.
A short while ago, Marie Simard, founder of One cat at a time, received a call regarding two helpless kittens needing immediate help. Their mom was nowhere to be found, the kittens were severely dehydrated and had trouble eating.

“They were found outside in a backyard by a lady. She contacted me and sent me pictures of the kittens showing that they were both missing a paw,” said Marie.

At 1 1/2 weeks old, the two siblings were on the beginnings of a downward spiral, fighting multiple infections. Taken to a vet for a checkup he wasn’t sure if they would make it. Despite this dark outlook, Marie was determined to at least give them a fighting chance.

Sake, the male, was very frail, his sister Sakura (the tabby) not too great herself was slightly better off and snuggled up to him, offering him comfort. Right from the start, their special bond was clear.

They began antibiotics right away and were monitored around the clock. “Their foster family had to give them hydrotherapy. They made sure to keep the wounds clean at all times, and it paid off.”

With such great care, the felines began turning the corner and regained their appetite. What followed was a nice gain in both their weight and their strength.

“They had a follow-up appointment at the veterinary clinic recently, and their wounds seemed to be healing,” Marie said.

As well as missing a paw each, they also had extra toes, giving them opposable thumbs on their paws, making them polydactyls. Getting over the hump of fighting their infections both Sake and Sakura quickly began gaining more energy, turning into ruff and tumble rollie-pollies.

Both kittens had defied the odds stacked against them and found the road back to a full recovery with the help of all their support staff.

They were by and far, each other’s biggest support.

The best part of their recovery was watching them become more playful and seeing their tiny personalities emerging.

Only having three paws did not slow them down one bit.

They now have the rest of their lives to look forward to.

A journey they hope to continue together.

“Who said they can’t live on three legs? They are perfectly imperfect,” Marie added.

Read these characteristics which almost all cat lovers have in common:

INTROVERTED AND SENSITIVE
It’s the nature of cats that they are not friends with everybody, and the same trait can be seen in their owners too. Usually, they live alone and are happy with their independent lifestyle. They are introverts but are comfortable hanging around with other people. However, they would need some me-time to relax and recharge.

CAT LOVERS LEAN TO LEFT
It has been observed that people with liberal political leanings prefer cats over dogs. You might be a liberal dog lover or a conservative cat owner; if you’re a liberal, you love cats and vice versa.

CAT OWNERS ARE OPEN-MINDED
Five traits – conscientiousness, neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, and openness are often seen in most cat lovers. As compared to dog owners, people who have cats as pets are more open and therefore, have greater artistic creativity.

ATTENTION SEEKERS
Just like their pets, cat lovers seek attention from people around them. They like to be the centre of all conversations. At times, cat owners rely on their pets for emotional support.

THEY RESPECT CATS MORE THAN ANYONE
Cat people respect cats more than humans, in general. The saddest sight for a cat lover is to see the animal on the streets without a home. Cat lovers are often seen making a special effort to rescue or rehabilitate homeless cats.
